What makes our Union Meeting House so special?
Our beautiful newly renovated historic building is a perfect venue for weddings, recitals, memorial services, and lectures. Our wedding/event coordinators will be available to you during your event. The Meeting House can accommodate up to 250 people. The facility is accessible with a ramp in the back of the building.
In the past the Union Meeting House has been host to Humorist Tim Sample, the “Old Cop Guys” John Ford and Mark Nickerson, and a political forum. In June the Board holds its annual Open House serving food and refreshments and has a silent auction and wine pull as its fundraiser.
Every year this place is the backdrop to the town’s live nativity scene. This inter-denominational event began in 1967 and is held yearly on the Friday and Saturday prior to Christmas. The street lights are shut off, Main Street is closed in front of the Meeting House, and local children and farm animals play the parts. The narrator tells the story of Jesus’ birth and the audience participates in the musical ensemble. At the end, we all gather around the manger as we sing “Away In The Manger”.
The pageant received the 2016 Spirit of America Foundation Tribute “for admirable efforts in providing a yearly tradition to our community through the hard work of dedicated volunteers”. This Maine honor is awarded to local individuals, organizations, and projects for commendable community service.
In December 2017 the pageant will be celebrating its 50th year. If you have experience working with children, organizers are looking for you.
